Carpets hide a lot. Dust mites, allergens, old spills, pet dander, tracked-in grime from outside. You might vacuum every week and still have carpets that are well overdue for a proper clean. Here are five signs it is time to call in the professionals.
1. There is a smell that does not go away
If your carpet has a musty or stale smell, no amount of deodoriser spray is going to fix it. The smell is coming from something trapped deep in the fibres or underlay. A hot water extraction clean gets into the base of the carpet where vacuuming cannot reach.
2. Stains that have been there a while
Fresh stains have a much better chance of coming out than old ones. Once a stain has had time to bond with the carpet fibres, it is harder to shift. That said, professional equipment and the right treatments can remove a lot of stains that look permanent.
3. Your carpet looks flat and worn
High-traffic areas like hallways and lounge rooms get compressed over time. A professional clean, especially with hot water extraction, can restore a lot of the texture and make older carpet look noticeably better.
4. Allergy symptoms are worse at home
If you or your family are sneezing more, getting itchy eyes, or dealing with more respiratory issues at home than elsewhere, your carpet could be the cause. Carpets trap allergens including dust mites, pollen, pet dander and mould spores. A deep clean removes what vacuuming leaves behind.
5. It has been more than 12 to 18 months
Most Auckland households with kids or pets should be getting their carpets cleaned every 12 months. Households without kids or pets can usually stretch to 18 months. Beyond that, you are just letting the build-up compound.
We had a customer in Remuera who was ready to replace her carpets. After one clean, she decided she did not need to. Same carpets, three more years of use. That is a good result.
